This text is an authored exposition of the accounting of a learner's repertoire of cards and skills in the methodology of Applied Behavior Analysis. It is not a normative legal act, a medical prescription, a diagnostic instrument, or a substitute for clinical judgment. The exposition states a reproducible form of repertoire accounting: what an introduced card is, how categories partition the repertoire, how the size of a category and the combinatorial potential are counted, when a target combination is constructible, and how the conclusion “the combination is not constructed” is expressed; the choice of particular cards, teaching categories, and the order of their introduction for a particular learner is not stated by this exposition and must rest on clinical assessment. The vocabulary of the learner, the skill, the card, the session, and the teaching target is taken from the authored exposition of the vocabulary of skills and records and is not redefined here; the facts of that exposition do not cross the package boundary, and therefore this exposition declares inputs of its own.

A repertoire (Repertoire) belongs to exactly one learner and is the unit of card-composition accounting: statements about the size of a category and about the combinatorial potential are made about a repertoire, not about a learner at large. A repertoire is fully supplied if the journal has named its learner and the learner is supplied to the case; an incompletely supplied repertoire receives no sizes. A card is placed into a repertoire if the journal has reported it by an explicit fact; the placement of a card is dated and belongs to the date axis. Independent use of a card by the learner is confirmed by the journal as a separate explicit fact and is not replaced by the placement of the card. The repertoire keeper (RepertoireKeeper) places cards into the repertoire, pins categories to them, and declares target combinations; the journal names the keeper of each repertoire by an explicit fact.

The date on which a card is placed into a repertoire belongs to the legalTime axis and is the only calendar quantity of the exposition. Category sizes, the number of cards of a repertoire, and the combinatorial potential are measured by whole numbers and are not a calendar: they are not converted into dates, take no part in computing deadlines, and read no calendar. The duties of the repertoire keeper are attached to a closed window of the card-placement date, beginning on that date and ending at the declared upper bound of the same date.

A card category (CardCategory) is a closed enumeration of five members: object (Object), action (Action), attribute (Attribute), place (Place), and person (Person). A category is pinned to a card by an explicit fact of the journal, and the card-to-category relation has the card itself as its key: two different categories for one card are a key conflict, and the journal declares it loudly rather than choosing between them. No category is derived from another: the enumeration is closed, and the difference of two of its members is not expressible inside a rule body, so assertions about categories are written one per category.

A card is introduced into a repertoire if the journal has placed it there and the journal has pinned a category to it. A placed card without a pinned category is not introduced and enters no size: the category is a condition of introduction, not an ornament of the record. Confirmed independent use is not a condition of introduction — it belongs to section 13 and is decided by a reading.

The size of a category of a repertoire is the number of introduced cards of that category; it is counted directly by enumerating the introduced cards and is written one rule per category, because the enumeration of categories is closed. The number of cards of a repertoire is the number of all cards introduced into it and is counted by the same enumeration without a restriction on the category. Both counts are counts over the derived predicate of introduction and are enumerated as a completed positive reading: a strict closure adds positive support, and later negative support does not make that reading false.

The categories cover the repertoire: the sum of the sizes of the five categories is not less than the number of cards of the repertoire, and equals it when the journal is sound. The two halves of this assertion are held by different means and are therefore deliberately separated. Coverage — “not less” — is a derived assertion about EVERY fully supplied repertoire: a card without a category is not introduced under section 5, so no counted card slips past all five sizes. Equality — “not more” — is held by the key of section 4: a second category for one card is a key conflict, it is declared at the input and is not repaired by a rule. A repertoire for which equality is not derived in the absence of a key conflict is to be read as a defect of the journal, not as new law.

A category of a repertoire is complete if its size is not less than the parametric minimum number of cards of a complete category. A category whose size is one below the parameter is not complete. Completeness is asserted for each category separately, because the enumeration of categories is closed.

A target combination (Combination) is a pair of cards of one repertoire declared by the journal: a carrier card and an attribute card. A combination belongs to exactly one repertoire and has an identity of its own: the case refers to it as an entity, not as a pair of values. The components of a combination are named by the journal as separate explicit facts; a combination for which the journal has not named both components does not possess its components.

A combination is constructible if both of its cards are introduced into the repertoire of the combination. The set of declared combinations is declared closed with respect to constructibility: a combination for which constructibility is not derived receives an explicit negative, and the assertion “the combination is not constructed” is derived rather than the silence of the journal. Constructibility means neither that the combination has been taught nor that it has been presented: it means exactly that both components are present in the repertoire.

The combinatorial potential of a repertoire is the product of the size of the object category by the size of the attribute category and is computed as a product of two counts rather than by enumerating pairs: enumerating pairs would require two binders, while the exposition makes do with one. The potential is sufficient if it is not less than the parametric minimum sufficient potential. A repertoire is ready for teaching combinations if both participating categories are complete and the potential is sufficient.

For every card placed into a repertoire there arises an achievement duty of the repertoire keeper toward the learner to pin a category to the card within the closed window of its placement date; pinning and departure are alike reported by the journal as explicit facts, and after the window closes a departure is visible as a violation. For every declared combination there arises an achievement duty to name both of its components within the same window of the carrier card's placement date. The audit of repertoire keeping consists in enumerating these positions.

The exposition acknowledges that a constructible combination whose components' independent use the journal has not confirmed requires a decision, and it does not settle the dispute about what that decision should be. Constructibility and full confirmation of a combination are reporting assertions of the base theory: the first means that both cards are introduced, the second that both are moreover confirmed by independent use. The targetability of a combination for teaching the base theory does not derive at all. The first reading treats every constructible combination as targetable: a card introduced into the repertoire is available for a combination immediately. The second reading treats only a fully confirmed combination as targetable: teaching a combination makes sense only when each component separately is already used independently. The readings are declared as named interpretations and are deliberately not gathered into a group with a mandatory choice: the base theory is silent on the question of targetability, and that silence is an answer, not a gap. The choice of a reading is made by the context of the case.

The calculations “size of a category”, “number of cards of a repertoire”, and “combinatorial potential” return, respectively, the number of introduced cards of the category, the number of all introduced cards, and the product of the first two over the object and attribute categories; the first two are counted directly by enumeration, the third by multiplication. The boundaries of this version are stated explicitly: the exposition models neither the assessment of stimulus preference and reinforcer value (Pace, Ivancic, Edwards, Iwata, & Page, 1985; Ahearn, Clark, DeBar, & Florentino, 2005), nor stimulus equivalence relations and their testing (Sidman & Tailby, 1982; Rehfeldt, 2011), nor matrix training and recombinative generalization as a procedure (Axe & Sainato, 2010; Frampton, Wymer, Hansen, & Shillingsburg, 2016; Pauwels, Ahearn, & Cohen, 2015) — the combinatorial potential of this exposition is a count of possibilities, not an assertion about transfer — nor the classification of cards by verbal operants (Sundberg & Michael, 2001), nor the order of introducing cards and its effect on the rate of learning. All of the listed remains outside the model rather than being declared nonexistent; the numeric values of the parameters of the exposition are authored working quantities and are not constants of the literature listed.
